Beachbummin'

Lotsa catching up to do! Hope everyone is enjoying the week, and especially all our Canadian friends who enjoyed the long weekend!
Woohoo, it's a short week.. and the weekend is here already!
We were lucky to whisk away for a few days to Ucluelet, on the west coast of Vancouver Island!  It is just south of Tofino..lots of nice beaches - a favourite local spot for surfers!

Ellie insisted on tagging along, and this time, we gave in to her request ;)
This trip was just made for Ellie! Her first time at a beach, and running into the water..that tail would not stop wagging, lol.  Her face would light up every time we reached for the leash... she knew there was another great adventure waiting... :D

DAY 1

Barks at the Park!

Last weekend, we went to Queen's Park in New Westminster, BC for some sun and fun :)

Ellie: "Catch me!"

Ellie's style of playing at an offleash dog park is very offbeat and unusual.  She shows little interest and plays hard to get, but you know she wants to be chased! ;) With tall order, she also barks authority at others if they get too close to her sticks.  Princess Ellie needs to learn to play nice or it will be hard to make new friends, little gal!

We had a home-cooked meal at our place and everybody was so stuffed after, they had trouble getting outta their seats! Darn... I wanted to jump up and steal the leftovers....I guess I settled for the crumbs on the floor instead ;)

P.S.  That's me settling in and getting comfy on Grandma's lap!

Richmond bans puppy sales in pet stores!

Sunday, May 8: The start of Canada's first city to ban the sale of puppies and dogs in pet stores.

Many US Cities have adopted the same bylaw including:
West Hollywood, California, Albuquerque, New Mexico and South Lake Tahoe, California.

This is a giant step forward to discourage impulse puppy purchases by uninformed buyers, and prohibit pet stores from obtaining dogs from backyard breeders and puppy mills. Puppies born from puppy mills come from deplorable and horrific conditions, where breeding dogs are kept in wire cages their entire life to be bred over and over again. These dogs receive little to no veterinary care and are left with inadequate food, water, and proper socialization. Hooray for Richmond! C'mon Vancouver, Burnaby and all of BC - let's step up to the plate and set an example for the rest of Canada and USA!
